First Year Course Revisions

Start: 2007
Report Publication Date: 2008
Primary Project Leader Colin Kestell

Funding
Amount: $0.00 Body: University of Adelaide
Summary
The project involved the design and implementation of new versions of the level 1 introductory courses in Electrical and Electronic Engineering to standardise course lengths. The previous first year courses provided a sound theoretical basis but were dry and abstract, resulting in relatively high failure and attrition rates. The new courses include largely self-contained and self paced group project work designed to provide context for students and the motivation of producing a working circuit. The approach to the delivery of lecture content was changed to focus on introducing new concepts in context, related to practical engineering systems, followed by theoretical underpinnings.
